PET Felt

Chapters

1. Is PET Felt made from 100% recycled plastic?

No, the current PET Felt technology doesn’t allow us to use recycled plastic only. There is a percentage of virgin fibres in PET Felt as well.

2. What is the percentage of recycled plastic in PET Felt?

Currently, the PET Felt used to make De Vorm’s products has up to 60% of recycled content. We are constantly working on improving the process in order to increase this number.

3. What is the source of PET waste that De Vorm uses to make furniture?

We produce locally in Western Europe. All the plastic bottles used to make De Vorm’s PET Felt collection come from European sorting centres.

4. Are the PET Felt panels fire resistant?

We can make our PET Felt panels fire resistant upon request, by applying special fire treatment. You can find more information about the applicable surcharges in our price list. The fire-resistance certificates of the Mute panels with fire treatment can be found in the Download Library.

5. Are the PET Felt panels heat resistant?

Our PET Felt panels are formed by heating and pressing, therefore, they contain melt fibres. Under the impact of heat and pressure, the fibres melt and hold the felt together in a sturdy form. If you were to reheat the PET panels, these melt fibres would melt again and the PET panels could deform. There are different melt fibres with different melting temperatures. We advise not to heat the PET Felt for a long time above a temperature of 80°C.

6. Can I get a custom colour blend of PET Felt?

Currently, PET Felt collection of De Vorm includes 11 unique colour blends. Producing a custom colour is a laborious and costly process. Therefore, custom colours can only be developed for very large orders. In such cases, there will be a surcharge.

7. Can the PET Felt products be recycled afterwards?

Yes, all of the PET Felt products can easily be recycled after their use.

8. Does PET Felt emit any off-gases?

No, PET Felt material used in De Vorm’s products does not emit any off-gases, like volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
